Road to Economic Recovery and Business Opportunities
Despite the heavy economic downturn in Latvia during the second half of 2008, Latvia's economy grew in the fourth quarter at the quickest pace in three years as an expansion in exports and industrial production help fuel a recovery. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased an annual 3.7 percent in the period, according to the Statistics Office in Riga. That compares with the median estimate in a Bloomberg Survey of economists who are predicting a four percent expansion. The economy grew 1.1 percent from the previous three months. (Aaron Eglitis, Bloomberg News). Industrial production expanded by 16.2 percent in the 4th quarter and exports increased an annual 29.4 percent in one month alone. Although unemployment is high, the country is starting to stabilize. Latvia may become the model for the rest of Europe's recovery!
You will have personal interactions with The Ambassador, His Excellency Andrejs Pildegovics, The Honorable Juris Poikans, Deputy Chief of Mission and Counsellor, Mr. Edgars Trumkalns, First Secretary, and Mr. Rudolfs Bremanis, Second Secretary (Political/Economic/Consular).
