Europe
Europe is a continent filled with many countries that have a rich and deep history. Europe is the western most landmass that is still considered to be a part of Eurasia. Bordered in the north by the Arctic Ocean, the west by the Atlantic Ocean, the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and the East by Asia Europe is the second smallest continent with about 10.18 million km squared making up two percent of the Earth’s surface. Western culture has been developed in Europe throughout the rise and fall of empires like the Roman Empire. Advancements in art, science, and philosophy increased throughout civilization time on the continent. While developing Western culture, countries on the continent also spread European and Asian culture to other parts of the world. The landscape of Europe is littered with worldwide landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, and The Leaning Tower of Pisa. Europe continues to have a strong influence over the rest of the world especially after the creation of the European Union. Tensions between countries have erupted in conflict in the past, however, the continent had a relatively long period of peace thanks to the creation of the European Union which promotes cooperation between nation states. However, the peace of Europe has been shattered once again, this time by Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine and his efforts to reverse NATO expansion in Eastern Europe. Putin's regime is committing genocide by trying to erase a nation, its history, and its people from the map of Europe. America, Europe and its allies are supporting Ukraine and its people during this crisis but much more needs to be done to stop Russian aggression. This devastating decision will impact not only Europe, which will be crippled by an energy crisis, but other parts of Africa and Asia which are dependent on Ukraine for food.
